How registration works
You do not register yourself. Your force examinations officer checks your eligibility and allocates you a place on the registration platform. Speak to them well before the registration window closes, especially if you need reasonable adjustments, as requests must reach your force by the closing date.
Results
Results and a feedback report are released within about three weeks of each sitting. The expected dates are shown in the table above. A pass is valid for five years (less one day) from the date you sat the exam.
How much time do you have to revise?
Many candidates allow around 12 to 16 weeks. Counting back from each exam:
- March Sergeants' exam: start by late November or early December 2026.
- May Inspectors' exam: start by mid January 2027.
- October Sergeants' exam: start by June 2027.
- November Inspectors' exam: start by July 2027.
The syllabus for all 2027 sittings is the 2027 edition of the Blackstone's Police Manuals. See how to revise for the exam for a week-by-week approach.
